Popular Nigerian gospel artiste Tope Alabi has cried out after she discovered that fraudsters have been using her name to extort people for money. She revealed that the ordeal has left her in pain.
The energetic gospel artiste made her grievances known during a chat with The Punch. She revealed that she had found out about the fraudsters’ intentions after people called her that they have sent money to her account. According to the musician, the fraudsters had created a fake social media account to carry out their nefarious activities. She explained that a cloned profile was created on Instagram to dupe people. Tope Alabi further expressed that the ordeal has caused her and a lot of people pain. She added that whenever she needs money she calls on God.
She said: “The pain that these fraudsters have caused me by using my name to extort money from people is too much. People have been paying money into an account they provided, thinking that I am the one they are relating with. This is so disheartening because even if I need money, I run to God.” The gospel artiste further added that she doesn’ t suspect anybody for committing the crime. She also revealed that the account was immediately closed down when she found out.
“I am not suspecting anybody at the moment. I got to know about this when people called me to say that they had paid money into a particular account following a request from me. Since I discovered this, the person has shut down the account. It is really so painful.”
Tope Alabi is a talented gospel artiste who has released many hit albums. The 47-year-old artiste was born on October 27, 1970. She married Soji Alabi in 1988.
