Army- We Were Invited By Lagos State Government To Intervene In #EndSARS Crisis

The Nigerian army has finally unveiled the role it played in the fallout of the peaceful #EndSARS protests last week. If you could remember vividly, some unarmed peaceful protesters were allegedly killed on the 20th October,2020, after officials of the Nigerian army allegedly opened fire on them, at Lekki Tollgate. Although the Nigerian army initially denied that it was at the scene, describing such as fake news, it has however explained that it was available at the scene on invitation by the state government. The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army debunked report of military officers shooting sporadically at unarmed #EndSARS Protesters at the Lekki toll gate. The Acting Director Army Public Relations, Major Osoba Olaniyi, in a statement today, confirmed the involvement of soldiers in restoring order and peace in Lagos state, following the declaration of curfew by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The statement reads in part, “The attention of Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to a viral video on social media in which it was alleged that civilian protesters were massacred by soldiers at Lekki Toll Plaza. This allegation is untrue, unfounded and aimed at causing anarchy in the country.” “At no time did soldiers of the Nigerian Army open fire on any civilian. From the onset of the ENDSARS protest, there was no time personnel of 81 Division Nigerian Army Lagos were involved.” “However, the decision to call in the military was taken by the Lagos State Government (LASG) after a 24- hour curfew was imposed.” “This was as a result of the violence which led to several police stations being burnt, policemen killed, suspects in police custody released and weapons carted away.” “The situation was fast degenerating into anarchy. It was at this point that LASG requested for the military to intervene in order to restore normalcy.” “The intervention of the military followed all laid down procedures for Internal Security operations and all the soldiers involved acted within the confines of the Rules of[…]

Oby Ezekwesili- ‘Buhari’s Government Is A Shame’, she reacts to Lekki massacre, COVID-19 Palliatives

Obi Ezekwesili, a former Presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, has described as shame President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government over the killings and shooting of peaceful #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos State few days ago. Ezekwesili in a tweet on her verified Twitter account on Tuesday, October 27, she said the blood of the dead Nigerians who were shot dead and injured during the#EndSARS protest are crying for justice. According to her, while reacting to the ongoing #CovidPalliativesUltimateSearch across the country, the President and state governors played themselves in what has been described as ‘greedy game’ by Nigerians. She also damned the government for attacking poor and unarmed Nigerians who were only demanding for justice and progress of the country. Ezekwesili alleged that the government instead of addressing the demands of the protesters released hoodlums they used during elections on them against their justice cause. She tweeted: “It is 7 days since that #BlackTuesday of #LekkiTollGateProtest where @HQNigerianArmy shot our unarmed #EndSARS protesters. “The Blood of the dead citizens is crying for Justice, @MBuhari.” “Is it not a shame how the @NigeriaGov @MBuhari and some governors played themselves.” “Young citizens were gently and peacefully asking you to #EndSARS and all you could do was release the thugs you hire during elections against their Just Cause. “The Americans have a saying that, “the genie is out of the bottle or that someone has let the genie out of the bottle”. It means that something has happened which has made a great and permanent change in people’s lives, especially a bad change.” “I have seen heartbreaking videos of the #CovidPalliativesUltimateSearch going on all over the country. The evil of hiding away palliatives procured for the poor and vulnerable is the worst symbol yet of the systemic acts of corruption in our governments at all levels. Big Shame!” “Now that the Pandora Box of #HiddenCovidPalliatives is flung open by the citizens who were deprived of their due, can the @NigeriaGov @MBuhari[…]

Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, on Sunday, found a camera at the scene of the shooting in the Lekki area of Lagos state. Fashola found the device while on tour of the place where #EndSARS protesters demonstrated for 13 days before they were forcefully dispersed. On Tuesday, men in army uniform invaded the Lekki toll gate where the unarmed protesters were and opened fire on them. There has been a controversy over the number of those killed and the persons who sustained injuries. On Sunday, ministers and governors from the south-west, made an on-the-spot assessment of some of the places vandalised during the violence that trailed the #EndSARS protest. It was during the visit that Fashola found the camera which he said must have been planted by “some subversive elements”. The minister reportedly picked up the device with a handkerchief and handed it over to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos. “I think this will help with the ongoing investigations into the shootings at the Lekki Toll Gate. It requires forensic analysis and could be used in the investigations to unravel the mystery surrounding the shootings at the Toll Gate, I believe,” he was quoted to have said so.
